Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Coming from a community of low income households, many times our students do not have access to mental health resources. I would like for students to have the tools I teach them to use in distress readily available in their classrooms. My goal is for struggling students to be able to identify their emotions, advocate for their need of the kit, and use it to cope with their distress.
Our students are often dealing with issues at home that translate to the classroom that is why I have included calming tools such as fidgets, motivational cards and coloring sheets to allow for the practice of positive affirmations, headphones for quiet, and a timer to hold students accountable for their self regulation time.
