I teach a group of 25 amazing 5/6 year olds. My students live in a low income area and for many, school is their safe place. My students come into Kindergarten at different stages in their educational career. Some are learning to write their name, while others are reading and writing stories.
I have the benefit of teaching in a PreK-12 building.
I am able to have older students come into my classroom to help my kindergarteners with beginning learning skills. It is so exciting to see the relationships form among students.
My Project
My students need wobble chairs, floor cushion and seats. Students are busier than ever, yet teaching and classroom expectations remain the same. We expect our 5 year olds to sit in a chair to learn, when that isn’t necessarily what they need.
Students deserve the right to have a choice in how they learn.
For some, that may by your traditional table and chairs, however, for others it may be sprawled out on the floor, standing at a counter, or wobbling in a stool.
I am committed to giving my students a choice in how they learn. I want my students to be able to be comfortable, yet successful. With this project I will be able to transform my classroom into one of collaboration, smiles and success.
