A typical day in my classroom is filled with learning and excitement! I teach a lot of students with special learning needs and having a room with visual aids will help them immensely. I hope to teach my students History with the resources other teachers already have.
My students attend a Title 1, high poverty, high needs school.
My school is struggling in terms of up keep, but my students are energetic and ready to learn. It's important to keep them interested in learning and technology helps me do that immensely. My school is 100% minority students with a 99% free and reduced lunch rate. It is located in the District of Columbia. They often do not have the necessary school supplies and teachers are not given much help in providing said supplies.
Many of the materials I am requesting are for classroom decoration or for everyday use (like pens, pencils, and notebooks). My students rarely come to school with the appropriate supplies for a variety of reasons and in the past I have paid for these materials myself. This next year I am desperate for help as it all begins to add up. Some of the amazing visuals I am requesting will help my students who learn better with visual aids and allow me to better explain things in reference to maps, photos, and other aids. An Apple TV will allow me to use my own laptop at school by being able to mirror images onto the projector as well. The books are for me to review some of the history I will be covering as I am teaching this particular era of history for the first time. I will keep the books in my classroom as reference points if my students want to learn more about particular subjects as well!
This project will make a HUGE difference in my students' lives and in my classroom.
My students will be excited to point out new countries on the map and be able to see photos and power points projected using the Apple TV. The donations are deeply appreciated and enhance the learning that goes on in my classroom in the following school year.
