"He's touching me! She's not sitting in her spot." These are the constant cries I hear from my first graders as we gather to the front of the room for a lesson. We need a classroom rug to give every student their own comfortable spot to learn.
My students are a group of first graders that attend a Title I school in Colorado.
In spite of their economic disadvantages, my kids are eager to learn and anxious to please. I have varying exceptionalities in my classroom but we work as a community to try to understand each other and work through our differences. I feel so lucky to get to teach and learn from my group of kids.
My Project
We are requesting a rug for our classroom to use during our story time, calendar, and whole group lessons. My students need a cozy carpet to invite them to learn. We spend most of our day on the floor and my students would love to have a comfy space of their own while they take on the learning challenges of first grade.
Having this classroom rug will allow my students to stay focused on their learning instead of worrying about where and what they are sitting on.
Minimizing distractions and increasing their focus is optimal for helping first graders learn and grow.
