Help me give my students a calming and comfortable rug for us to sit on as we share, listen, and learn!
I am a Kindergarten teacher at an elementary school on the Northshore in Louisiana. Our students come from various backgrounds and with a lot of exciting things to share, something Kindergarten students love to do! A class rug for our group meetings is important for my students to feel comfortable to share with their class and to learn new skills.
In this class, we build a community around what we have in common and our shared experiences.
A classroom rug creates an inviting and warm place for my Kindergarten students to meet and learn. My students love to share and our morning meeting rug is the perfect place to do that!
My students will learn new Math and ELA skills on this rug; they will listen to stories; they will learn and play in small groups.
We start each morning with a class meeting to discuss the day, share stories, and listen to stories read aloud. We need a large rug that will give each child their own personal space but still feel like a part of the classroom family.
We will use the class rug for classroom activities, games, partner work, sharing, singing songs, and read alouds.
The rug I selected is a calming gray tone, perfect for the large size and for the space in the room. The sit spots provide some color and will create a personal space for each child in my class. The different color spots will help with grouping and for students to feel ownership of their area on the carpet.
