I teach 3rd grade at a low income/high poverty school. I already know some of my students face different challenges in and outside of school. I want my students to know that this school is always a safe and positive learning environment. Creating a positive classroom environment requires students to trust teachers and feel cared about.
My students are always willing to challenge themselves.
I am working on instilling growth mindsets rather than fixed mindsets in my students by telling them it's okay to make mistakes because we learn from them and that, no matter how hard something may be, we just need to say, "We can do hard things." I do not want them to give up on something that may be challenging. My students are my joy, and I am so glad that each of them is in my class. All I want is the best for my students.
My Project
This classroom rug will help make my classroom feel a bit more like home.
In our classroom, we have a designated read-aloud time and I know that this area rug will be the perfect spot for my students to come sit while listening to a book.
It will also be a great space for kids to come sit while I am teaching a reading or math mini-lesson. This year I am implementing "Morning Meetings" and I want this rug to be the central location that all these class meetings will take place. The bright colors in this area rug match perfectly with my classroom theme. I know that this rug will be used every day and the memories made on the rug will last a lifetime.
