My students need more options in our classroom library. At this time, there are very few books or options for the varied reading levels of my students. The items chosen are grade level books.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are special because they want to attend college, be career ready and give back to their communities. In order for my students, who are predominately African-American and English Language Learners (ELL) to accomplish this, they need more technology in the classroom to improve their reading and writing. These spirited children want to improve and grow. They enjoy researching and learning.
My students are resilient.
They come to school with the weight of the world on their shoulders. Despite facing poverty, violence, drugs and homelessness on a daily basis, they want a better life and they have learned that a better life is achievable through school. My students love field trips, projects, and community service.
My Project
We need your help! The books chosen will assist the students with closing their reading achievement gap. Over 70 percent of my students do not read on grade level. In order to help students to improve, we need leveled books.
The books were carefully selected.
The Grade 7 Classic Grade Level Library, which will assist with guided reading set for seventh graders and the high interest books pertaining to music, insects, and culture will assist with student engagement and improved literacy levels. The students want to improve and by having more resources available to support their cause will help us tremendously.
