Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is full of an amazing group of young learners. My students love coming to school and thrive as a community of learners when they feel safe, encouraged and welcomed.
My students love our classroom library.
This is a space where they can dive into their favorite genres and take risks to explore new ones. They often rely on what we can provide for them in terms of reading materials within the school. Trips to the outside library are not always possible for every student.
My Project
With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to imagine, dream and explore. These books will be used during Reader's and Writer's Workshop as mentor texts. Students will have access to them throughout the day within our classroom library.
Many of these books will be used to explore character traits, theme and narrative writing.
Many of my students are learning English as a second language and come from diverse families. These texts will be used as a tool to expose them to different aspects of literature, a variety of reading skills and life experiences.
