My Students

All of my students can succeed in the classroom and beyond. To help assist students in their personal journey to becoming lifelong learners, I am building a multicultural library and ensuring my classroom is well stocked with supplies that lead to success. Many of my students are English Language Learners who don't have access to books in their first language. Our school serves a population that is over 25% Latino amidst many other demographics. More than half of the students in our school are on Free and Reduced lunch. My goal is to build a library that represents this diverse group of students and provide healthy snacks for students who do not have access to food at home.

I am a firm believer of creating a safe classroom environment.

Because I teach a large variety of students who come from a vast array of backgrounds, I want to represent as many students as possible in the books to which they have access. I also want students to know they can come to my classroom to grab what they need to succeed for the day.

My Project

I am attempting to stock a food pantry in my classroom, as too many of our students go without enough food at home. Since the pandemic started, I've seen a huge increase in the number of students asking about snacks during the school day and I struggle to keep up with the demand. These donations allow me to offer granola bars and other healthy snacks to students who didn't get breakfast, may not get dinner, or just need something to help them focus on learning. I have selected healthy snacks (Nature Valley granola bars, fruit snacks, crackers) because they are filling and easy to eat during class. I can't expect students to pay attention and learn if they are hungry.

This food pantry has had a huge impact on my students and I couldn't do it without your support.

Including a diverse collection of books in my classroom library helps students find reading materials that they may not have access to outside of school. The pandemic has caused more stress on working parents who do not always have the extra time to take students to the library when needed. By maintaining a fully stocked classroom library and providing enough classroom copies of books (The Giver), I can help students access reading materials to help them succeed in class and become lifelong learners.

I can't thank you enough for making it possible for me to continually run my classroom food pantry and classroom library. Everyone deserves a school day free from hunger and access to multicultural books.
