Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school serves students in grades K-6 and provides rigorous academics in a wonderful and safe learning environment. We are located in, and serve students who live in, one of the largest housing projects in the region. We have a very dynamic group of students, with 95% of our students coming from low income homes and receiving free or reduced lunch pricing. Thirty-eight percent of our diverse group have limited English proficiency, and 16% have some sort of a disability. We strive, every day, to provide a safe and caring environment that empowers them to achieve at their highest potential.
My Project
An organized classroom makes for organized minds. Students often come from chaotic homes and need a place where they know they can find things. These book boxes will create a place for students to access materials easily. The hanging folders help educators prepare materials for the students so they can be organized themselves. An organized teacher creates an environment that is more successful for students to succeed. As our classroom sizes continue to grow, we need to also grow our materials. We are in need of more book boxes because we have gained more students this year that we didn't have last year.
