My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. My students are all different types of learners and have various backgrounds. I have students who do not speak English, students with disabilities, and some students who are homeless.
I teach at a Title I school in the Bronx, New York where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Many of my students receive food and clothing from the school's charity drives. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful one day.
My Project
This project will serve two major purposes. First it will provide students with needed school supplies that their parents or guardians cannot afford to purchase. For example, many students do not come in with colored pencils, crayons, markers, folders, or notebooks. These are the basic supplies needed in order to learn. My school doesn't provided these supplies and if I am able to have these materials, the students can begin learning on day one.
It's stressful for the parents to buy these supplies because they might not have enough money and that stress gets put on their children, who feel they are coming to school unprepared.
The second way these materials will help the students in the classroom is by keeping their work and projects created throughout the year neat and organized. The folders will be use to store assessments and other completed work. The label maker will be used to label the students' work and materials throughout the classroom to make everything accessible and help English language learners build their vocabulary as well.
