Classroom Organization and Student Choice Enhance Learning
My students need the Calming Colors Soft Seats to provide comfortable seating choices, markers, and the Seat Storage Sacks provide a place for students to store materials.
My students thrive in the classroom knowing they are learning about things in their everyday lives. My students go to a Title I school in Brooklyn, where all students have the option of getting free lunch. Many of my students are Spanish-speaking and many are Muslim, with families recently immigrating to the United States.
I know from experience that my students are jumping out of their seats each week looking forward to answering the many questions brewing in their everlasting growing minds.
They thoroughly enjoy the studies that we do, one in the fall and one in the spring, in which they can learn deeply about one topic, integrating math, reading, writing, and social studies.
My Project
In order to provide the most successful learning experiences for my students, it is imperative that I create a classroom community that is organized and that provides choices.
When students have flexible seating options and when they know how to easily access materials, their learning is directly enhanced.
Some of my students need other areas in the classroom to work to provide them with the most focused space, so the soft cushions will provide more flexible seating options for my students.
All of my students also use seat sacks to store various materials in our classroom. This year, we store our word study materials and book baggies in our seat sacks. This provides easy access to these materials during lessons, so there are fewer disruptions and distractions.
