This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach 6 middle school Language Arts classes. The student count in the groups range between 25-35. They face many challenges due to the number of students in the class and lack of resources in the classroom.
My students come from a very diverse community and low income area.
There are students from over 47 different countries that live in the school district where I teach. They love working in cooperative groups where they can share ideas that arise from different cultural viewpoints being brought to the texts that they are reading.
My Project
I teach in a low income area and am looking to upgrade the novel choices for my Language Arts Classroom. Since we have limited funding we are using books that make it difficult for the new generation of students to make connections.
I am choosing "Origins" by Dan Brown as a novel to use with my classes because it ties in many of today's technology issues.
It discusses how computers and artificial intelligence can help solve some of science's big questions. It can show the benefits and dangers of relying on technology in this new age world. This would tie in nicely with our science and social studies curriculums as they have focuses on evolution which is discussed in the novel.
