Help me give my students fun and exciting reading materials such as Scholastic News which is not only fun and engaging reading for students, but also teaches great lessons and ties in with technology!
I live in Libby, Montana which is a small town nestled between the mountains of Glacier National Park and Idaho. Libby was once an area known for its mines and timber industry. Unfortunately, the downfall of those industries in the area has resulted in a high number of children living in poverty. We are a Title I school with K-6 students and teachers sharing a building and resources.
As a new teacher, my passion for helping my kiddos greatly outweighs my resources and finances.
There is so much I want for my students that I don't have the ability to provide at this time. My student's parents and the community are amazing and very supportive of our school. Most, however, don't have the means to help with purchasing supplies for the classroom.
My Project
Scholastic readers are a wonderful resource for a classroom. Not only are they a way to engage students of all levels, but each one also has great lessons and a technology element. They can be used for whole-class instruction or independent work.
Reading, science, history, math, and community are all taught in the weekly Scholastic News.
I am requesting not only the weekly news, which covers a variety of engaging topics but the science booster as well. The weekly news has a multi-page reader, a comprehension quiz, an educational video, and an interactive online game with each issue. The science booster is a monthly add on that challenges students to think like a scientist and test their skills! This would be a wonderful addition to my classroom!
