My students come from low income families who cannot afford basic classroom materials. They come to school every day with a passion to learn. They have all set high goals for themselves and are collegebound students.
These students should not be deprived of an education just because they can not afford classroom materials.
Our classroom resources are low due to lack of funding; students have to share books. I would like for each student to feel like they are actually visiting the far off places we discuss. Most of my students will never have the opportunity to explore Africa and Australia in real life, so I want to take them on that journey through books.
My Project
My students are in need of new dictionaries. The ones we do have are falling apart and are hard to use. Many of my students walk into my classroom at the start of the year not knowing how to use a dictionary. They're so used to looking up information online. I want my students to be resourceful and know other ways to find the answers to their questions besides going online.
My classroom is also in need of chairs for flexible seating.
A flexible seating classroom is when traditional seating are replaced with seating arrangements that allow the students to seat where they choose and what they sit on.
