My students need supplies! Every year I have students show up on the first day with a used notebook and one pencil! Also, through the years big classroom items have broken down. Such as our easel!
My students are children from disadvantaged neighborhoods who statistically should not succeed. Many come from hard backgrounds. They come to kindergarten with the deck stacked against them, and unfortunately, they know it, even as young as 5 years old. However, these children are resilient. They are strong, courageous, and so smart in a multitude of ways.
I have come to the realization over the past couple of years that I will probably never stop teaching in this community, and honestly, I do not want to teach anywhere else!
These kids have stolen my heart with their enthusiasm and thirst for knowledge. They do not need me nearly as much as I need them. They remind me every day why I became a teacher in the first place.
My Project
In addition to basic supplies needed for everyday instruction (Notebooks, Art Supplies, Index Cards, etc.) items I routinely use for whole group and small group instruction have broken down. My personal Easel broke a few years ago, and this was the last year for our classroom mailboxes and pocket chart holder. A decent pencil sharpener cuts down on time wasted, and the glue gun will make hanging anchor charts a breeze!
Students who are prepared for the day, who do not need to worry about the tools they need to learn, can focus on the skills they need to succeed in school!
The materials I requested will help to keep our classroom running like a well-oiled Learning Machine!
