I teach 4th grade at a Title I and under performing school. My school is very heavily populated with English language learners and they aren't afforded some of the opportunities students in affluent areas might not have.
However, my students are some of the best people I know!
They are great kids and I am trying my best to engage them and build relationships with them. What a better way to build relationships then having fun and playing creative learning games and have many academic learning options is my thinking.
People often use money as a reason why these types of lessons aren't being offered. I refuse to let something like money dictate how I am going to teach. Any support will be greatly appreciated.
My classroom theme is Turning my classroom into a Hollywood movie premiere , complete with red carpet. Coming to school should be exciting for students! And the decorations in the room should reflect that! In addition to making the room feel like a Hollywood movie premiere, I also want to take some Time and take this year to highlight books that were turned into movies. I want to drive up the students engagement levels and what better way than to connect the books we read in the classroom than with the visuals of a major Hollywood movie or Broadway show! Through this project students will read fiction and nonfiction books while being able to make visual connections and practicing skills like summarization, theme/main idea, characterization and point of view.
