My students need a desk, desk organizers, a document camera, and a utility cart to be successful. Many of the items in my classroom come from out of pocket, so any help is greatly appreciated!
I am a 4th grade teacher in a suburban elementary school where the free/reduced lunch rate is almost 50% (compared to other elementary schools in the district, where most are around 8-14%). We don't have a district supplied curriculum for social studies or science, so I have been left to find and purchase most of these materials myself.
My students love to learn and deserve to have quality materials to learn from.
The socioeconomic makeup of my classroom is diverse, including refugees. Many of my students don't have appropriate reading materials or access to the internet at home, making school the only exposure they have to these types of resources. Being able to provide them with the tools necessary to be successful in today's 21st century world readily available to them in my classroom is extremely important to me.
My Project
The products that I have selected will enhance the classroom environment and experience for my students. As many of the items and resources already in my classroom have come from out of pocket purchases, it becomes challenging to continue to provide my students with great materials to use.
The classroom items listed would allow me to create a classroom environment where my students can be successful.
For example, the document camera would allow me to give a visual representation for whole group activities and lessons. I would be able to project the work for my students as we work on it together. As I have three different classes of students, the mesh desk organizers would provide a system of organization for my students, thus helping to keep their school day running smoothly. The metal utility cart would be used for our classroom library. The desk would allow for a spot for center work, and the pocket chart organizers would be used so that each student in my homeroom has a specified spot for their work, as well as for absent work to be stored.
My students come from a population where over half are on free/reduced lunch, the highest by far in our district. They love to learn and deserve to have the same opportunities and resources available to them that other schools in our district have.
