Motivation in the upper elementary grades... for the students at my school, this is often a challenge. It is my hope to stay current with technology today in order to help facilitate and inspire motivation.
The students in my class come from homes that are especially limited in their resources.
Most of them receive free or reduced lunch and are often recommended to our after school program in order to keep them in a safe, friendly, and academic community. They are great kids but the complexities of their lives at home often impact their behavior in the classroom in a negative way. They are thirsty for knowledge but as the saying goes, these little horses sometimes need motivation to "drink".
My Project
I am hoping to gain an iPad mini to put directly into the hands of my students as a motivational tool. I intend to use it with an application called, "Class Dojo" that helps track both the positive & negative actions of my students. The students themselves will be directly involved in the tracking of their daily progress. Through this program they will earn points towards various achievements. As a class, we will plan and establish the rewards for the point system. This will also be linked directly to their report card conduct and behavior standards. Additionally, it will and can be shared with their families on a regular basis. I'm certain that bringing an iPad mini into the hands of my students will be a wonderful inspiration and motivation. They are constantly seeking any and all opportunities to interact in the technological world.
This donation will impact the lives of my students in such a meaningful way.
When they are engaged and motivated, the barriers that they all bring along with them into the classroom, minimize. Consequently, learning, growth, and progress optimize. It is a small tool, with such great potential. Using it will allow my students to focus, commit, and strive through their education. That, for me, is a invaluable tool.
