My students need challenging and engaging Makerspace materials to help develop critical thinking skills needed to become successful leaders in their world!
I teach kindergarten in a small school in Iowa. Our elementary school is PK-5. We have a great school system with dedicated teachers that are excited to see their kids thrive and succeed.
My kindergarten students are very active and excited about learning.
I love to see their enthusiasm when they learn something new. It is that enthusiasm that keeps me looking for ways to engage and challenge them in my classroom.
I want to engage my students in learning activities that promote collaboration and communication among their peers as well as creativity, and the use of critical thinking skills. My students love coming to school every day, eager to learn and discover the world around them. In our school, we strive for success and becoming great leaders.
My Project
These stem materials will help me supply an area in my room where students may go to create and use their imagination. Using Makerspace materials such as K'Nex, Powerclicks, Coding activities, Ozobots, and Legos, students will problem solve and work together to build and explore. A Makerspace will provide students with a space to "make" things and lets me, the teacher, see what wonderful, creative projects my students can do.
These STEM materials will give my students an opportunity to problem solve and work collaboratively with peers, creating and inventing.
Students will also learn that experiences that sometimes end in failure turn out to be opportunities from which to learn and become successful. They are transformed into lifelong learners that are not afraid to explore, improve, and change the world around them. These opportunities will help build the skills my students need to become successful in the future.
It builds student confidence and helps students learn to accept new ideas, learn by making mistakes, and help teach others skills. A Makerspace will help learning be fun for my students while helping them become challenged and engaged in the learning process. This project will help my students develop critical skills needed to help them become successful leaders in their world!
