Our students are unique because of the diversity found within our classroom. I am a Title I Reading Specialist. I service the students that are reading at the 5th grade level and below. I work with over 200 students during the school year. My readers struggle with ADHD, Dyslexia, and English as their Second Language.
My classroom is a place for diverse students to learn and grow into young adults with the skills to thrive in our ever developing world.
These students come from a variety of cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds. Our school is almost all low income with students from all around the world making 39% of our students English Language Learners. We have been dubbed the most diverse school in the state of Arkansas. Our goal is to provide every possible advantage for our students to develop the skills necessary to become as successful as they can be, regardless of how their disability may try to hinder them.
My Project
I serve students in a Title I classroom. The students I serve can be easily distracted when listening or working. They are typically unmotivated in school because of their struggle in reading. I help them in their academic subjects including economics, literacy, and math. To help my students be more successful, I am trying to redo our classroom design to provide a better space for learning.
My classroom space is a former storage area and is in desperate need of an update!
There are no bookcases for a classroom library. We want to make the space one in which the students will be excited to be and enjoy choosing books and learning. By making the classroom beautiful and efficient, we hope to increase engagement and bring about learning. Your donation would make a difference in helping our students learn in these specific subject areas. Thank you for considering our classroom; it means so much.
