My Students

I work in a Title 1 school in Henderson, Nevada. In my class, there are a mix of students, some of whom are English language learners, have learning disabilities, lack the necessary materials to practice with at home, or a combination of the above.

My students have the desire to learn and grow and become leaders, but sometimes have difficulty learning due to lack of resources.

They work hard, but sometimes have trouble becoming engaged and invested in the learning process. They are sweet kids who deserve better than I can offer right now.

My Project

My fourth graders receive dozens of papers each week that need to be brought home. Currently, those papers must be passed out by hand to each student. This is both time consuming and a chaotic end-of-day process.

By utilizing a student mailbox system, that process is streamlined and students can take on more responsibility in making sure they check their mailboxes daily.

This is a win-win situation as making sure the papers get to the student they need to go to can be done outside of times students are in the classroom. Then students can check their boxes between reading rotations or during transition times, reducing the amount of instructional time that goes to waste.
