Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. I say, "All Stars" and they clap in reply, "We are!" I want them to know I believe in them and they can do anything.
I teach at a Title I school in Northern California where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Many of my students receive backpack food on the weekend, and our school also runs a food pantry for our families. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful one day.
My Project
I am now looking to expand my authentic literature to magazines and newspapers, as these are an authentic source of current information, and I want my students to be lifelong learners. Showing them how useful magazines can be in learning current information will be very powerful. I will also have access to many online resources through these magazine subscriptions, so I can help students access information using 21st century technology resources.
With these magazines I will be one step closer to providing my students with a large amount of authentic, realistic literature that can be used to show them how to gather information and read about current events for the long term.
Some students love animals, others art, current events, and some sports, I want to get something to include all the students interests.
I hope that this will encourage them to seek out information as they get older, and to be life-long learners.
