My students need literature sets by authors like Lois Lowry that encourage rigorous thinking and collaborative discussions, as well as cultivate thought provoking argument writing.

My Students
Our students love learning and get excited about new projects that include hands-on experiences. Our Title 1 school has an eclectic group of students (68% free and reduced lunch) who are college bound and learning all they can to be successful in and out of the classroom.
We have an extremely supportive community!
Our school has several after school clubs that offer our students hands-on, STEM related experiences. We would love to have the funding to be able to offer these same type hands on projects inside our classroom.
My Project
The novel, The Giver, will provide a cross-curricular learning experience. During our analysis of the literature, my students will discuss the perspective of the characters, their environmental influences, and literature elements.
With this new literature study, my students will be able to have collaborative discussions, analyze others' perspectives, and conduct argument writing.
This literature study will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. The best way to increase reading and writing abilities is for students to read and write more. This literature study will help my students grow stronger in their reading and writing abilities. This project will help enrich my students experiences with the printed word.
