I teach in a productive, rural school system that strives to meet the common and individual needs of all students. Our elementary school houses grades pre-k through sixth with a total of 350 willing learners. A little over 50% of those students come from low income families making it challenging for all students to come to school with the resources they need. Our district is constantly striving to improve to ensure that we are providing our students with experiences that will prepare them to be productive students and citizens throughout their lives. Various academic supports are currently in place, including RTI, to ensure this happens.
Specifically, I teach kindergarten and it is important for me to always make sure they are provided with every opportunity and every resource they need to be able to learn, work, and grow as students.
My classroom is the home of 25 eager learners. I also usually have about 1/3 Amish students who are still learning English. As a result my students vary from those who are unable to speak/understand English to those who are already reading and writing.
I teach all subject areas including mathematics, language arts, science, social studies, technology and handwriting.
My Project
My students need an Echo dot to integrate technology in my classroom. My students can use voice-controlled searches to answer questions when I am not available, listen to nursery rhymes, children's songs and books. I would also like to use this as a modern listening center since my kindergartners have a hard time using the traditional one without assistance. The bookshelf benches will also help provide a comfy, welcoming learning area where students will feel at home when reading.
The Amazon Echo Dot will transform my classroom into an interactive learning space that will create technologically advanced students of the future.
Whether through reading stations, math, social studies, or spelling the Amazon Echo will enhance learning and make station time fun and exciting. The possibilities for using the Echo in the classroom are limitless!
