We are an inner-city school that serves a Latinx and African American student population. The majority of students qualify for free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch. Our classroom supports a range of students including English learners, students with exceptionalities, and students identified as gifted and talented.
Our students live in an underserved part of our city and reflect a diverse group of eager learners.
They come to school with grit and do not let personal hardships or inaction by our elected officials hold them back.
My Project
My goal is to build a library of several hundred books including novels, comics, short story collections, and graphic novels. I want to provide my students with an engaging class library that is culturally inclusive. A classroom library will provide them with access to books that support our curriculum.
Reading comprehension is one of the most important determinants of academic success.
A student can increase their reading level by several years by incorporating reading into their routine.
Access to books to accommodate different reading levels, languages, and interests will help encourage reading growth this year and beyond for my students.
