I have been in the field of education for almost 10 years! I love my profession and all my students. My experience has always been in a Title I school and I don’t think I would have it any other way. My students come from several different extenuated circumstances and tend to be a grade or two behind. My goal is to fill in the gaps and help my students reach their full potential. In my classroom, excellence is expected and I believe they will all succeed.
This year I have a group of 28 students!
I feel it is important to get to know and build a relationship with each of them on an individual basis. Most of my students are between the ages of 7-8 years old and currently are very interested in Fortnite and LOL Dolls. My students are extremely strong in math but struggle in reading. I am heavily focused on reading because my goal is to have all of my students reading at grade-level before the end of the school year.
My Project
At my school we do not have a classroom or school-wide library! The foundation for reading skills begins in the primary grades and most of my students aren't exposed to books outside of my classroom.
I want my students to fall in love with reading!
I believe the only way to do that is to expose them to books! I am trying to build a classroom library so they can have books they can read on their own.
My students currently borrow my books and bring them back to me the next day to complete their homework and reading logs. Unfortunately, I do not have enough books to let each student do this so they take turns. We are in need of your help!
