Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
At an institute recently I was challenged to invite my students to "fall down the rabbit hole of a story..." This I long to do. I long to have a classroom full of 30 Fourth grade students who are so lost in their books that it is difficult for me to pull them out of their books to move on with the day.
I am a second year teacher who has just begun to adopt a workshop method of teaching reading. Students need to be reading literature at their own reading level and that is why I am asking for help. I taught last year and had a decent sized library, but this year with the introduction of the workshop model, my library needs to be richer, and full of literature the students can't wait to read.
By having a library with plenty of books at the appropriate reading levels, I will be able to focus my instruction to help individual students accelerate their reading levels and reach their goals that will be set at the beginning of the year.
Having a full and rich classroom library of not only chapter books, but picture books would be an asset for years to come.
I need literature ranging from Second grade level through Sixth grade level. This will allow all of the readers in my class to have a rich reading life with plenty of stories to lose themselves in.
