This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students come from an urban community where education is valued. They will thrive in a resource rich environment.

My students love to read and would love authentic on level reading experiences.

I have 3 classes with approximately 30 students in each class. My students have a wide range of abilities, but the goal is that each student will have the ability to master 6th grade reading skills.

Students have a wide range of reading experiences within my classroom. They have short stories in their textbook, small group literature circles where we study novels, and student choice books. The books we are looking for support our student choice library.

My Project

Our school is located in urban Lansing, MI. We are a 100% Title I school. Our classroom is currently seeking books to fill our classroom library. We currently have some below level books and a few above level books but are lacking in books at a sixth grade level. Our class services 90 students and we need to have enough reading resources to reach all 90 students.

I have picked high interest books as well as some books with diverse themes.

These books will be used to support silent reading and our accelerated reader initiative currently in place within our school.
