Starting from a very early age, children love books. From being read to on their parents laps, to board books, to their favorite series. Somewhere around the age that I teach (12-13) books just become "not cool" anymore. It is more exciting for young teens to play Fortnite or watch a movie on the big screen.
I know how important it is to instill the love of reading into young adults and to do this, they need access to the most popular books out there today.
These materials will make a difference in my students' daily lives. They will be able to use them daily in choosing their own choice novels to read. I can make a display named "DonorsChoose.org" so that students are aware of the value of making donations.
From classics like George Orwell's 1984, to new exciting young adult books like Lockdown, students will be able to devour literature and develop a love of books.
With 30 minutes each day of choice reading, their opportunities will be endless!
Thank you for bringing the gift of reading into our classroom! They will be treasured by myself and my students for years to come.
