Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school campus has the privilege of mirroring the diversity of our city, giving our students the opportunity of learning about their community, and how they as individuals fit inside of it, in a smaller, safer environment.
My students come from all walks of life: diverse cultural, socio-economic, and educational backgrounds and in my classroom they learn to work through their differences with patience and understanding.
Mistakes happen, but they are an integral part of learning during our time together.
My Project
Having an abundant, up-to-date, and diverse classroom library will allow me as a teacher to direct students to books that can re-ignite their love of reading on-the-spot. Although we also have a campus library, there is a lost opportunity for real-time interest and curiosity when there isn't a collection of books available in an English classroom.
The diverse selections on this list best reflect the diversity of my students lived experiences.
Representation matters! And all students know this more than anyone. Reading can change lives and by senior year of high school, that passion for reading risks being lost forever.
