This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our students are creative. Our students are driven. Our students have heart and courage. Young people from all over the greater Charleston area attend CCSMS, many live nearby and walk to school.
The diversity of our student body is our greatest strength.
Although we are a Charter for Math and Science, our students have innumerable talents and skills that go well beyond their STEM classes. They are fully aware of Charleston's rich history and appreciate the city they call home. Simply put, the learning environment at CCSMS is awesome.
My Project
Building the classroom library will be a continuous process. First and foremost it has to be comfortable and inviting. The carpet will really help!
The goal is to get the students engaged, to help them understand how much can be gained from reading.
Especially the students who don't know what they're missing. Although the library will primarily focus on US and World History, some great works and the classics will certainly be included. The collection will also assist with research, group projects, papers and satisfying the students' general curiosities. I am very excited about this space in the classroom and will continue to improve the library throughout the school year.
