Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students love to read and consume books at an amazing rate. These students strive to learn as much as they can as quickly as they can. They are self-motivated and care about each other. This year they worked together to write several books. They were all published! Our community is rural and our school is poorly funded. We need greater access to books and literature for our junior high students. We hope to remedy that with your help and support.

My Project

Our students are assessed on their ability to read. One of the best ways to improve one's reading ability is through practice. Reading is a foundational skill that students need in order to be successful in school, college, and in their careers. My students need greater access to literature and reading materials. In order to inspire a love of reading in a child, they must be exposed to diverse, leveled literature. Finding a topic that one enjoys reading about helps the student overcome their struggle with the written word and gains practice in the skill. Please help me create successful reading experiences for the young men and young women in my classroom.
