Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My first grade students and I are very excited to begin a new school year at C.T.S.E! Our community is in a low income, high poverty area in which many students face a range of challenges both in and outside of the classroom. Despite many of these challenges which are beyond the control of the classroom the community wholeheartedly invests in the education of students. This investment is reflected everyday in the students motivation and enthusiasm towards education.
My Project
Our classroom is in need of more books students can read independently. Having access to these books will allow them to complete their Accelerated Reader goals as well as improve their overall reading achievement. Practicing independent reading will additionally help students become more confident in their reading and push them to become strategic readers. As first graders they are still practicing many of the foundational skills they will need as they progress through their education. It is important that our classroom has the resources available to engage with and master those essential skills. Our classroom has been working hard to become proficient, independent readers!
