Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a 4th-grade teacher at an urban school district. Due to our poverty level, we are a Title I school. Ultimately my students all receive free breakfast and lunch each day.
Despite the challenging situations my students have at home, they come to school eager to learn.
They love to learn new ideas in reading, math, science, and social studies. They enjoy showing what they know in each subject and sharing it through their writing and in answering questions. They really are a great group of kids.
My Project
I am asking for a grade four leveled library, as well as sets books by popular authors including Roald Dahl. The books in this project will be used for our Independent Reading time. Many of the current books in my room are falling apart or we do not have enough books at the reading levels my students are currently at. We have been studying author's craft and discussing why an author chooses to write about something. We also discuss why an author introduces material to the reader at various points within a story.
Having these books will help us to learn this process and ultimately become better readers and potential future authors.
Our current books are falling apart and are in need of constant repair. I'm requesting various leveled books so my students can do their independent work and make connections to our overall strategies.
