Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In my year-round classroom in Los Angeles, I have students who span the spectrum of reading grade levels. Because of this, our classroom goal is for each student to raise their reading levels by 2 grades by the end of the year. This goal allows for differentiation in my classroom and for the students to be invested in their goals--both key factors in student achievements.
In order to realize this goal, I need to provide my students with a range of literature that captures their interest and engages them in learning. I am submitting this proposal to enrich my classroom library and continue allowing my students to have significant gains.
I am asking for a donation for books to add to my classroom library. The books include a variety of topics and grade-levels so that all of my students can access the material. I am also asking for a classroom subscription to TIME for Kids so that my students may stay informed on what is happening in the world. Too often my students believe that they are the only ones-reading will help them understand the enormity of our world.
I believe that a strong foundation in literacy is essential for academic, personal, and social success. It is my job to provide my students with the skills they need to enjoy learning and love reading. Through providing interesting and grade appropriate reading material, I can ensure that I am doing this.
