Our school serves a diverse population that includes approximately 240 curious and energetic high school and middle school students. I teach 7th graders. Approximately 40% of our student body qualifies for free or reduced-price lunch and we have a significant Native American population. Our students have a strong desire to think, learn, and read books.
This project will add books to my classroom library.
I believe that there is the perfect book out there for every student. Some students just have a more difficult time finding it than others. I am an avid reader of young adult books - both fiction and nonfiction - so that I am able to offer viable suggestions to students who have a difficult time finding a book to read. It is my goal to offer a large amount of reading material to my students from the comfort of the classroom. This project helps provide easy access to a variety of topics, genres, and formats to better meet the needs and interests of my students.
My Project
I teach 7th grade reading. This project will put some of the newest and most popular book titles into the hands of my students, so that their love of reading will grow. It includes a mix of fiction, nonfiction, and graphic novels. It also will allow me to complete at least one book series. This will be great, as students are disappointed when the "next part" of the story is not available. This is important, as students prefer a variety of formats and genres. This project is also replacing some classroom favorites that have been loved to the point of needing to be replaced.
