Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have the honor of teaching 7th and 8th grade English Language Arts in the heart of the Back of the Yards neighborhood of Chicago. My students are vibrant, helpful, energetic, and inspiring. They are full of character and hope for the future.
My students have faced many obstacles yet are resilient and eager to learn and succeed.
Wether through virtual learning, or in person instruction, they are engaged and ready to learn. My desire is to create a classroom environment that honors them and celebrates their cultures, their resilience and their lives.
My Project
I am a first year teacher and am on a voyage to build my classroom library! It is important that my library is inclusive, and holds books of all reading levels and varieties. Through this classroom library they will gain access to all sorts of wonderful and empowering literature.
I hope to inspire my students to enjoy reading and find titles that interest and engage them.
This collection holds classic novels, more modern hits, and literature that they can relate to. This classroom library will be bilingual. These novels will serve as windows and mirrors. Thank you in advance for your help!
