My students need these 20 different titles because I am implementing a new reading program including The Book Thief, Go Set a Watchman, and The Outsiders.
I plan on starting my class every day with independent reading time. I feel that many students dislike reading because they are rarely given the opportunity to read what they enjoy. With this new program, I hope to provide students with the materials they need to enjoy reading again.
I teach in a Title I school with students who have very little support at home.
Most students cannot provide their own materials. I have been trying to gather my own materials to assist them. I am very lucky to be in a district with such a close knit community because I teach great students who need to know that someone does care about them.
My Project
My students need these 20 different titles, including The Book Thief, Go Set a Watchman, and The Outsiders, because I am implementing a new reading program. My students will be able to choose from a larger variety of Young Adult novels to read. They will read their novel every day at the beginning of class, and they will not need to go out and purchase the book. We will use these novels to do book talks, podcasts, book reviews and even literature circles. This will help students to determine what type of novel they might like to read next.
Like I said before, a lot of my students do not have a stable home life.
Oftentimes, they end of caring for younger siblings or other children in the household. Donations will certainly help improve literacy in my classroom and show my students that when they come to school, I want them to be taken care of by providing the materials they need to be successful.
