Mrs. Cannon from Chicago IL is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need more books that are suited to their reading level in order to improve literacy, including Nate the Great, Junie B. Jones, and fiction titles!

A typical day in my classroom has our mornings centered around literacy. As my students eat their breakfast, I am reading to them. They love this part of the day, as well as independent reading time! They feel so accomplished when they have read a book to themselves!
My students are so full of energy and life.
I've loved getting to see them come to love the process of learning this year. They love to read and never let me forget to do guided reading and independent reading! They have learned to take ownership of what they are reading and have learned to love reading to me and to each other! My school is all about nurturing the whole child, not just academically. Some days we spend more time working through social issues and issues that arise in the community. And that's okay! We are a group of teachers who are banding together to give each student the best opportunity to succeed!
We will be using these leveled books daily during our guided reading, independent reading, and reading to others time in the classroom. These books will be chosen by each student to put in their individual book box that is used during our literacy block. Through these books, my students will learn how to read independently, comprehend what they have read, and fluently read to themselves and others. These are all hugely important skills to learn for young readers.
As a school, we don't always have the opportunity to get newer things.
Funds are limited all across the board. These books would supply my students with new stories that they have never seen before. It will give them a new book, not one that is falling apart at the seams. It will also give them confidence that they can read a full book on their own and fully understand what they have read, even if it is for the first time. It will give them a hope that they can and will do better than before.
