My Students

Are you team Edward or team Jacob? Did Hunger Games keep you up at night? We are a new school in the Chicago Public School system without a library! I am trying to build a high interest classroom library for my students. Currently my classroom library consists of thrift store finds.

We are a new visual and performing arts high school in Chicago.

We have been open two years and are without a library. I need high interest novels for students who read at a 5th grade level through a 12th grade level. We offer free pre-professional arts training to students from every corner of Chicago. Not only do I feel the mission of our school is important, the use of literacy in academic and arts education is essential.

My Project

With these new books, my students will have high interest novels at their fingertips. Students with extra time during class or study hall will be able to read popular titles for teens that are at their reading levels. Currently their options are very limited, and for students with limited means, having a print rich environment is necessary to help their language and academic development.

Reading is fundamental, right?

Even as a visual and performing arts high school, we are dedicated to providing a college preparatory education to our students. Many of our students are high achieving, but even more are in need of available high interest titles to keep them reading outside of the classroom.
