Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach multicultural students from all over the world! Several of the kids in my class have been in refugee camps where they have endured many different circumstances to get here! My goal is to provide a safe and nurturing learning environment for these students!

I purchase things on my own all the time, but with my salary--it gets tight.

These kids deserve quality texts, and all the school supplies they need! Their little faces light up everyday they walk through my door, ready to learn--I want to keep that engagement to help them learn to read and write. Thank you so much for your offering!

My Project

All of the texts on my list are ones recommended by our district! They are stories teaching kindness, fearless leaders such as Jane Goodall and Rosa Parks, or informational. Books are expensive and we purchase our own. My classroom library has been a focus from the beginning but has been very difficult to get quality texts. The tennis balls are used for the bottoms of their tables so they do not scratch up the floor. I also have card stock on there because I use it for everything (flash cards, bulletin boards, projects, the list goes on and on). All of these things go directly to my kids.

Working at a Title 1 school, we dont have much parent involvement.

These supplies are expected to be purchased out of my pocket along with the tiny bit of money the state gives us ($200 a year- that will buy my ink for the year, maybe). For the past two years I have stressed and spent so much of my money until I heard of donors choose! I have friends, family, and even people who dont know me or my students who want to give $10, $20 and that helps us SO MUCH. So thank you for reading this, and thank you for giving!
