Classroom Library and College Initiative

My students need mini pennants and a variety of books that are grade level appropriate to challenge them and to promote a sense of urgency towards higher order thinking. These include "The Things They Carried" and "The Catcher in the Rye,"

My Students

Reading is the vehicle by which my students will become the outstanding leaders that they are all capable of being.

Many of my students have grown up in poverty, attending a local school that has been under-serving them for decades.

The school facility itself is new, but the structures for teaching its students are outdated. Although a vast majority of my students are bright and passionate, they have been held down by an expectation of failure. The opportunities for success can be unlocked by one book or class. Hopefully that will provide that for them.

My Project

Many students in my class have never been challenged to read on a high level, nor have they read a book that "changes" them. These books that I have selected are foundational to a concrete English education in high school. They will challenge students, both with content and reading skills as well as the way they think, act, and relate to others around them.

Reading and literacy are foundational to any career, education, and life.

It is a necessary for academic success, and the doorway can be opened with one book. I hope that through this project and the books it will provide can open the door to a life of reading.
