The students in my classroom(Grades 1-5) are students with learning and emotional disabilities. Working in a public school that serves children from various cultures and incomes, I have been able to see how the children learn best, which is through hands-on activities that keep them engaged. When the lessons are interactive and students are able to use manipulatives, they display an eagerness to learn because they are having fun! Seeing the joy on their faces despite the barriers they face makes being a teacher so fulfilling.
Each one of my students has a unique story with a unique set of challenges.
For some, showing up to school every day is a huge success. For others, it's about summoning the courage to believe in themselves and fight for their future. Regardless, they are creative, passionate, gritty kids who are overcoming the very real obstacles in their lives in order to achieve their dream of the best education!
I am trying to create an engaging environment that will provide positive distractions rather than simple distractions. I want them to be comfortable and challenged. Most students who come to our classroom have weakness in reading.
My Project
Many of students have different learning disabilities. I want to be able to provide my students with an engaging learning environment. As a firm believer in a student-centered classroom, I want to be able to create an inviting and engaging environment for all learners. Many of my students absorb information through a more hands-on approach, so incorporating manipulatives as well as flexible seating to help my students who have various needs to focus and want to learn. Please help me be able to create a classroom for my students with special needs and for my future students who enter my classroom. We need tablets for the students to use the READ NATURALLY program, that reads passages to them a couple of times.
