Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I try to create a safe and inviting atmosphere.
The students in my classroom are students with learning and emotional disabilities.
Most of them have difficulty coming to school. Our classes serve students with a range of disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder and specific learning disabilities. Many of my students need equipment that the school can afford to purchase. These things will help my students have the ability to focus on their learning.
My Project
Halfway through the year my computer died! It has been hard to work on fun and exciting ways to work with my special education students without a computer in my room. The district gave me an old stand-alone tower but it can't be taken to the table to show the kids different things we are studying. They need visuals. Also, our classroom supplies have been used up for the year and I will have to spend my personal money to replenish them or wait till next year to get more. That means no more art for my students this year.
My students need basic supplies like folders, ink, construction paper and other supplies.
