My students need a new carpet for our flexible seating classroom. We need a gathering place for lessons to be taught, as well as a comfortable place for independent work.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The goal is a more student centered class. We are moving toward flexible seating, and incorporating more student choice into our day. We will be trading our desks for student work spaces that will have various types of seating. The carpet will be an essential aspect in our daily learning together.
My students are wonderful learners!
They are hard working, and eager to learn. They get antsy at their desks, though, which is why we are changing things up in our classroom. My students need choice in order to stay engaged in their learning. They love being active, moving around the room, and being a part of their learning process. The don't do well with sitting at their desks, and listening to a lesson. They need to be involved in the lesson. This is the reason why we are going toward a flexible seating style classroom. The desks are going bye-bye, and so are the chairs! We are trading them in for tables, stability balls, stools, and other seating choices. We will learn from the carpet at the center of the room, and when it is time for independent practice, they will choose a space.
My Project
The carpet is absolutely essential to our flexible seating classroom because it will provide a gathering place for our learning to happen. All lessons will be taught at the carpet. The carpet will also be a choice students can make for their seating option when it is time for their independent practice. Students will use it every single day!
This project will make a difference in our classroom because it will be the area where we come together as a class to learn, talk, share, present ideas, and be a community.
It will help instill a sense of togetherness and team work in my students.
