Most students who come to this classroom struggle with a traditional school setting. They and their parents have taken the brave step and chosen a different path. They are working in a correspondence program, tutoring, or are coming in to attend a variety of supplemental educational activities to add to their education. They are looking for extra support, improving grades and skills, and some to even complete a high school diploma past the traditional 12 years.
But these students and families are not giving up!
They and their families are trying extra ways to start a new life. Some are still young, some are struggling with adolescence in hard times, some are in the beginnings of adulthood. All are from a rural area of Alaska. The families are very involved and the students are very motivated. All because they want an overall better family life.
Please show them that they can do this- that all their hard work deserves the basics of a table to work at and a good chair to sit in and stay on task.
My Project
Students need places to work! I just inherited a classroom mid-year-and there is only 1 small/medium size table, 1 office chair, and 3 folding chairs. Seriously. Students use this space to study, get tutoring, do online correspondence classes, and attend small group work/study/projects.
This project involves a start on the basics.
4 tutoring/study tables- and chairs for these! (Since most students are considered 'non-traditional', I have chosen a variety of chairs to be comfortable and help stay more focused.)
Thank you for any help. I have brought in some things from my home too to help. I know paper and pencil are considered the basics- but so is a place to sit and work.
