Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My first grade ESOL students are excited and enthusiastic when they come to class! They are open to new learning and are not afraid to try something new. They come from diverse, cultural and linguistic backgrounds. As a cultural and responsive teacher, I use this as an advantage when planning for instructions. Despite the challenges that they face every day, they still come to school to learn and have fun! This what I always tell my students, we will have fun learning!
My Project
Our school provides breakfast and lunch for our students however in between the times that the students are in the classroom, students need to drink and have snacks just like us. If we're in luck, we have all the supplies needed for our instruction, but that rarely happens. Sometimes, I have to be creative in order to implement and teach the lesson with less materials. My students always ask me for snacks, I have bought some for them but sadly, I do not have enough for everyone every time they ask for one. We have a water fountain in the hallway but then it takes away time in our class when students step away from the room.
Students get easily bored and sleepy at times and they need snacks and water to get them going throughout the day.
I believe that when the tummy is full and the classroom is full, the mind is awake and ready to learn!
