Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I was recently hired to take over an empty fourth grade classroom. My students need important essential items that we will use in the classroom everyday throughout all of our lessons.
My students live in Southern CA, very close to the San Diego/Mexico Border.
I haven't met my students yet, but I am excited to do so in two weeks! I'm sure they are energetic, silly, and wonderful fourth graders. Kellogg Elementary is a school located just south of downtown San Diego. We are a tiny school, with about 350 students.
My Project
My students will use each of these items daily. The pocket charts will be used to display important information, such as vocabulary cards, or weekly jobs. The bins will be used to organize the students' classroom library. I have been working tirelessly to categorize my books and organize them in an efficient manner. The flip chart markers are phenomenal and the students will love being able to see colorful, vivid, anchor charts around the room to support their learning. With all of these colors, I can color code important vocabulary and make charts eye-catching for my students. The nameplate sleeves are a great way to ensure that students' nametags stay neat all year long, while eliminating the ability for students to peel the tape or lose their tag. Since the tags can slide out of the sleeves, I will still be able to change students' seats easily! These will also guarantee that all students' tags are in the same spot on their desks, which is helpful for any guests in our room.
These items are essential classroom items that students will use everyday.
They will aid in efficiency and organization. The markers, and pocket charts will help catch students' attention, while teaching them independence as they solve problems on their own by looking to the wall displays. The name plates will help give students a sense of ownership of their own space. Lastly, the bins will help make our library neat and inviting, encouraging students to read, read, read!
