My students come from a wide range of backgrounds and are grappling with many complex issues on the daily. Many families live in shelters or transitional housing and school is often the most stable place for them to thrive. Our classroom a safe haven, a place where students can grow both academically and emotionally. Recently common classroom commodities have become scarce. So far being able to provide these everyday items has really been a game changer, the students know they can count on the fact that everything they need will be there for them.
My Project
Given these amazing classroom essentials my students will be able to continue working everyday with out worry of where their supplies will be coming from. Having the essentials on hand helps keep both moral and productivity at its max! Binders to help the students stay organized, Post It’s for increased note taking during chapter book reading and of course pencils for taking notes, transcribing information, and solving problems. Being able to keep these needed things stocked helps reinforce the feeling of security here at school. I always tell my students, even if life at home is crazy or sad, to focus on their time at school because they are in charge of their own efforts and outcomes. Many of my students come from poverty and some struggle just to make it to school everyday, the last thing I want them to worry about is the need for daily supplies!
